Cacao, The Heart Opener

What is cacao?

Cacao refers to chocolate in its most raw, pure form that come from the Theobroma cacao tree.   This pure form of chocolate is known for its health benefits and spiritual properties.   It is filled with antioxidants as well as fiber, magnesium and protein.

What is a cacao ceremony?

This practice has been around for thousands of years in the Mayan culture.   The word cacao comes from the Mayan words "Ka'kau" which translates to "heart blood."   It was believed that the gods gifted cacao to the people directly.   The Maya believed that cacao was key for maintaining balance and spiritual connection.

Typically a cacao ceremony today is a spiritual gathering with a trained facilitator that involves drinking pure cacao with prayers and intentions.    The history and culture related to it needs to be taken seriously for anyone leading or participating in a ceremony.   The Mayans and other indigenous cultures believe that every plant has a spirit and knowledge to share.  However the plant needs to be respected in order to have access to that wisdom.

Many circles have sacred songs and include open expression and sharing as well as breathwork and dance at their events.    Enjoying ceremonial cacao can help you to get out of your head and more in your body and heart.     It also helps with relaxation and allows you to feel and reflect.
